Here's a party that's all about the animals
The Humane Society of the Nature Coast will host the 2008 Pet Expo from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Tom Varn Park, 301 Darby Lane.
Admission is $5 for adults and free for pets and children younger than 12.
There will be games, contests, fashions and services available for pets. There will also be food, refreshments and entertainment.
There will be early admittance on Saturday for the Bow-Wow Brigade at 9 a.m., a march for the homeless, neglected and abused pets of the community. Pets and their owners can participate in this fun walk. Participants are to collect pledges; there is a $25 minimum. Breakfast will be provided to all participants by Chick-fil-A. Also, all walkers will receive a Humane Society T-shirt, window decal, pet treats and toy. A prize will be awarded to the pet raising the most money.

Also, photos are being accepted for the 2009 Open Hearts Pet Calendar.
Winners will be chosen in two categories, judges choice and popular vote. The winners will be featured as Pets of the Month.
The entry fee is $10 per photo. Photos must be of pets only no humans allowed in the photo.
There is no limit to the number of photos entered or how many pets are featured in a photo.
All voting for photos will be conducted during the Pet Expo, where visitors can pay $1 per vote. Voting will end at 2 p.m. Sunday.
There will be a total of 25 winners chosen from the entries, which will be announced at 5 p.m. Sunday.
The Humane Society also has 2008 Open Heart Calendars available for $7 each. Orders can be made online at www.hsofnc.com, or calendars can be purchased at the Humane Society shelter.

Get the backup lowdown at club
The Hernando Computer Club invites area residents to its general meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the Hernando County Shrine Club, 13400 Montour St.
There will be a presentation on the "Perfect Backup Approach" provided by Gene Barlow, who will share his expertise on the backup approaches available to PC users. The presentation will cover the best backup approach, the best media to use and the best backup software available. Those attending will see how to recover files and restore one's hard drive should it crash.

SPRING HILL
Fling yourself into spring at church
Hope Community Bible Church, 13241 Spring Hill Drive, will host a Spring Fling Family Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
There will be an Easter egg hunt starting promptly at 10 a.m., as well as games, moonwalks, prizes, a puppet show, face painting, clowns and free hot dogs and sodas. The Easter Story will be told by storyteller Debbie Willman.

SPRING HILL
Sign up for builders' golf tournament
The Hernando Builders Association is taking registrations for a golf tournament March 27 at Silverthorn Country Club, 4550 Golf Club Lane. Check-in is 11:30 a.m. and tee-off is 1:30 p.m.
The tourney is a four-person scramble. The entry fee is $100 per player, which includes lunch, refreshments, beer, soda and bottled water on the course. A hole-in-one will win $10,000 cash.
The tournament is open to 36 teams on a first come, first served basis.
Sponsorship opportunities are also available and vary in price from a hole sponsor for $100 to a beverage cart sponsor for $250. Hole sponsors will be able to place a table on site with "give-aways" or information.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit Hernando-Pasco Hospice.

A touch of Broadway coming March 29
The Hernando Hills Hi-Lites will present their 15th annual Harmony On Parade show at 3 p.m. March 29 at Stage West Community Playhouse, 8390 Forest Oaks Blvd.
Renditions of Broadway hits will be presented by the women's barbershop chorus and their D'Lites and Minor Details quartets. Sunset, an area men's quartet, will also perform, as well as Rare Blend, a male/female quartet who add a twist to their barbershop performance with gospel, vocal jazz, classical swing and doo-wop.
Tickets are $12 in advance and $14 at the door; children and students 18 and younger pay half price. Also, tickets are $10 each for groups of 10 or more.
