Rumors that city residents' recycling is making its way into the incinerator with regular trash as a money-saver for the waste collection company may have a less insidious explanation. "I've had a couple of reports, but they use a regular truck sometimes when it's extremely busy," said Public Works director Steven Hallock. Apparently the city's waste management contractor, Waste Services Inc., uses regular garbage trucks when the trucks usually designated for recycling are unavailable. A number of calls have gone to the city staff and to at least one city commissioner when residents saw their recycling dumped into garbage trucks over the past few months. "As far as I know WSI is following the proper procedures," said Hallock, adding that company representatives offered a tour of their recycling center to any concerned residents. Calls to WSI to verify this offer were not returned. The company can be reached at 572-6800. Nick Johnson can be reached at nickjohnson@sptimes.com or 893-8361.
