15,000 want place in special programs

Most schools saw an increase in interest.

Pinellas families submitted more than 15,000 applications for magnet, fundamental and career academy programs this year. Parents who applied to the special programs have until midnight Sunday to call the district's automated phone line to find out whether they have been invited for the 2008-09 school year.

Those who are invited must call the district's automated phone line - (727) 501-0871 - before the deadline or their application will be voided.

All Pinellas programs showed an increase in applications, except for six:
