Alonso standout gets offer from bayou
Alonso defensive tackle Demonte McAllister received what arguably is his biggest scholarship offer to date Tuesday when defending national champion LSU pulled the trigger, McAllister said.
Auburn, Florida, Florida State the first to jump on board, Georgia, Tennessee and Miami have previously offered the 6-foot-3, 240-pounder.
McAllister, who is scheduled to take his ACT next month and will take his SAT sometime after that, had eight sacks and 40 tackles for the Ravens last season.
Arkansas impressed with Gaither's Giles
Looking to replenish its backfield after the departure of Heisman runnerup Darren McFadden, Arkansas is the latest school to offer Gaither running back Jarvis Giles a scholarship, Gaither coach Mark Kantor said.
Giles, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound powerful runner who is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, has 12 Division I offers, including Tennessee, UCF, Florida, FIU, South Carolina, Florida State, Boston College and Duke.
