Track work to close roads next week
As CSX railroad workers continue major maintenance on its line through Hernando County, the following roads will be closed at the tracks next week: On Monday, closures include Lake Lindsey and Yontz roads; on Tuesday, Manecke Road, East Avenue, Jefferson Street, Lamar Avenue, Daniel Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard; on Wednesday, Mitchell Road, Powell Road, Crum Road and Wilson Boulevard. Closures are each expected to last about eight days. Detour routes will be posted. For information, call 754-4062.
$3,500 in prizes for karaoke winners
Those who love to sing are encouraged to enter the karaoke contest at the Hernando County Fair April 7-9. More than $3,500 will be awarded in four categories: male, female, child for ages 13 and younger and duo (any age). There is no entry fee, but contestants must pay for admission to the fair. Registration is open to the first 100 contestants. The deadline is 4 p.m. March 31. Applications and rules are available at the fair office, 6436 Broad St. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. Rogers Park fee rises with season
Rogers Park on the Weeki Wachee River will begin charging the peak season $2 parking fee on Monday. The fee will be charged between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily; the park will remain open 24 hours a day. For information, call the Hernando County Parks Department at 754-4154.

Cats and kittens seek warm laps
Petco will host adopt-a-thons with Home at Last Pet Adoptions from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every Saturday in March at 7223 Coastal Blvd. A variety of cats and kittens will be available. All can be viewed online at halpetadoptions.petfinder.com and requests to have particular cats brought to one of the adopt-a-thons can be made. Fees vary and are tax-deductible.
