ST. PETERSBURG -- A pair of University of South Florida oceanographers have embarked on a two-month drilling expedition near Australia's Great Barrier Reef. They will join 24 other scientists representing eight countries in a project to learn more about the history of the Earth.

Cold night shelters need volunteers
The Pinellas County Coalition for the Homeless is seeking volunteers who can work overnight at shelters that are set up to temporarily house the homeless on cold nights. In addition, the coalition is asking for donations to help pay for meals, hygiene items and laundry for the cold nights. The shelters already have stayed open seven nights this winter, compared to a total of nine during all of winter last year.
