Apply for homestead exemption
INVERNESS -- Property Appraiser Ron Schultz has announced that the deadline to apply for a homestead exemption is March 1. If you are a new permanent Florida resident and moved into your home on or before Jan. 1, you may apply for homestead exemption. This also applies for previously exempted Florida residents that moved into a new home in the year 2000. The Inverness and Crystal River property appraisers' offices will be open Feb. 28 and March 1 until 7 p.m. for those who have not applied for 2001 homestead exemption.
