MARCH WHOLESALE PRICES DROP: Wholesale prices fell in March, led by a record drop in the price of natural gas used in homes. The Producer Price Index, which measures inflation pressures before they reach store shelves, edged down by 0.1 percent last month, the Labor Department reported, the first decline in seven months. Analysts had forecast a 0.1 percent increase. .

Fuel prices pump up for summer
Locally, average prices are still below last year's, but pressure on supply could drive prices higher in time for summer vacations.
