Clubs and organizations
The United Methodist Men of the First United Methodist Church in Inverness put on an appreciation luncheon for employees of the Citrus County Sheriff's Office on April 3. The purpose of the barbecued chicken lunch was to thank the Sheriff's Office for its hard work and dedication in the community and "to show God's love in a practical way," according to a news release. Cooking chores were assumed by Rudy and Gloria Schweitz, winter visitors and church members. Called Rudy's Famous BBQ Chicken, the sauce recipe is a dressed-up version of a recipe from Cornell University. They were ably assisted by the United Methodist Men and Women.

County birth rate registers 5 percent hike
Figures show slight decreases in the number of low birth weight babies and children born to unwed mothers.

Political scene
The Yankeetown-Inglis Republican Club will meet at noon Tuesday at the Izaak Walton Restaurant and Lodge, 63rd Street, Yankeetown, and features a lunch for $6 plus tax and tip per person. Susan Gill, supervisor of elections, Citrus County, will be the guest speaker. Reservations are required. Call Edith at 447-2622 or Scotty at 447-2895 for reservations and information. Open to members, guests and the public.
