Radium taints life in Round Lake
Radioactivity in the lake's freshwater mussels, above, may be high because the lake depends on water pumped from the Floridan Aquifer. Traces of radium are found in lakes throughout Florida.
Officials trying to track water pollutant
TAMPA -- County environmental regulators are visiting locations in Hillsborough contaminated with high levels of the gasoline additive MTBE, and plan to map out a strategy with state officials to track the substance as it pollutes water wells.
Investigators looking for answers in murder-suicide case
TAMPA -- Officials Tuesday identified the man who fatally shot his wife and then himself Monday in a busy supermarket parking lot as 49-year-old Michael Simon.
Woman faces check-kiting charges in 3 counties
TAMPA -- A 41-year-old woman on probation for fraud and forgery was arrested again Tuesday and charged with 13 felonies and one misdemeanor. Officials said she used a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office account number on fake checks to steal more than $3,500 incash and personal items.
