Well, better late than never.
A wise nursing home approach
While this session may best be remembered for the lightning speed with which Republican lawmakers overhauled -- with little forethought or debate -- everything from education to environmental policy, there's one area where the Florida Legislature deserves credit for taking it slow: the nursing-home liability "crisis." Here, if nowhere else, lawmakers appear to be interested in getting the facts before they make sweeping changes.
An unprincipled budget
Far from "principled," as House Speaker John Thrasher called it, next year's state budget fails to address real needs while instead funding unnecessary pet projects. Equally troubling, it came together in secret.
