LECANTO -- The Citrus County Health Department on Thursday completed its weekly pollen count, which is conducted in compliance with the American Academy of Allergy and Immunology's standards. Fungal spores and tree pollens registered in the moderate range, while grass and weed pollens were light.
New judge appointed to 5th Circuit bench
OCALA -- Gov. Jeb Bush has appointed Marion County Judge Sandra Edwards-Stephens to serve on the 5th Judicial Circuit bench. Edwards-Stephens is thought to be the first black female judge in the circuit, which includes Citrus, Hernando, Marion, Lake and Sumter counties. Edwards-Stephens will work in Ocala, but her jurisdiction covers the entire circuit. The judge will replace former Circuit Judge Thomas Sawaya, whom Bush recently appointed to the 5th District Court of Appeal. Edwards-Stephens, 49, was elected Marion County judge in 1990.
