  • KELLEY, JOHN A., 86, of Sugarmill Woods, Homosassa, died Tuesday (May 16, 2000). Born in Wheeling, W.Va., he came here 11 years ago from Cape Cod, Mass. He was a retired manager of Western Electric, with 42 years service, and a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II and graduated from the University of Florida with a business degree. He was a member of the Sugarmill Woods Golf and Country Club. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Coburn; two sons, John A. Jr., Maui, Hawaii, and James P., Belle Meade, N.J.; a daughter, Judith Ann Flanagan, Palos Verdes, Calif.; a brother, Dr. George G. Kelley, Jacksonville; three sisters, Mary Tuson, La Place, La., Kathleen Yeakle, Boca Raton, and Eileen Cominskey, West Palm Beach; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post 0129 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8601 and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, all of Alabama. He was owner and operator of a general contracting business for 10 years and was a field supervisor for Keys Industries, specializing in concrete construction. In 1973 he became a partner and owner of Marinari's International House of Gourmet Foods, a delicatessen in South Pasadena, until 1981. He worked at Fonte's Finer Foods until his retirement in 1990. He was involved with Pasadena Little League for 18 years and managed Boca Ciega Kiwanis Little League team. He was involved in the construction of the Arnold S. White Southeast Regional Little League Stadium, Gulfport, where he served on the board of directors for 10 years. He was a 38-year member of Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Gulfport, serving as an usher, bingo coordinator and as a member of the Parish School Board.     • MULLIGAN, BESSIE OVERSTREET, 96, of Athens, Ga., formerly of St. Petersburg, died Saturday (May 13, 2000) at Athens Regional Medical Center. Born in Screven County, Ga., she moved to St. Petersburg in 1954 from Savannah, Ga., where she worked as a schoolteacher and legal secretary. Locally, she was a longtime secretary at St. Petersburg Junior College before moving to Athens in 1996. She was a member of Middle Ground Baptist Church and Immanuel Baptist Church, Savannah. Survivors include two sons, B. Edward, Athens, and James C., Raleigh, N.C.; four grandchildren, Tally Mulligan, New Orleans, Leah Mulligan, Greenville, S.C., Benjamin C.     • NEIDEMERE, JANET A., 69, of St. Petersburg, died Monday (May 15, 2000) at Edward White Hospital. Born in New London, Conn., she came here 20 years ago from Lakeview, Ohio. She was a registered nurse and retired from a hospital in Marion, Ind. She was a member of the ladies auxiliaries of the Moose and the Eagles. She was a past president of the Recreation Association at Robert's Mobile Home and RV Resort and attended Holy Family Catholic Church. Survivors include a stepdaughter, Diana Neidemere, Lima, Ohio; and her companion, William "Bill" Hlady, St. Petersburg.     • ROCHOTTE, ROSE M., 94, of Claremont, N.H., a winter resident of St. Petersburg, died Wednesday (May 17, 2000) at Integrated Health Services of Pinellas Park. Born in Providence, R.I., she was a seasonal resident here for five years. She was a former spinner for Dartmouth Woolen Mill in New Hampshire and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Claremont. She enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Survivors include two daughters, Lorraine Palmer, Claremont, and Annette Paquette, Northfield, N.H.; a brother, Roland Moulin, Woodstock, Conn.; a sister, Lea Trathan, Danielson, Conn.; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She worked as a telephone operator and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She was a life member of the Moose Lodge.     • SHORTELL, JEAN, 88, of La Jolla, Calif., formerly of St. Petersburg, died Tuesday (April 25, 2000). Born in Trenton, N.J., she came to St. Petersburg in 1952 from Asbury Park, N.J. She moved to La Jolla about four years ago. She was the widow of Donnell "Don" Shortell, former St. Petersburg Times production manager and Times Publishing Co. board member, who died in 1993. Survivors include a brother, Charles B. Sunderland, Walnut Creek, Calif.; and three nieces, Lea Sunderland Davis, Memphis, Tenn., Lisbeth Sunderland Breazeale, Germantown, Tenn., and Cathy Sunderland Witkay, Alamo, Calif.     • SMITH, HENRY E., 75, of St. Petersburg, died Wednesday (May 17, 2000) at St. Petersburg General Hospital. He came here in 1981 from his native Brockton, Mass. He was a driver for Auto Carrier and a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. A recipient of two Purple Hearts, he was a past commander and life member of the VFW and a life member of Polish Club, Whitman, Mass. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mary; a daughter, Linda M. Monkevicz, and a son, Ronald, both of Plymouth, Mass.; five sisters, Freda Comlin and Wanda Mastropietro, both of Forestdale, Mass., Lorraine D'Angelo, Easton, Mass., and Helen DiMarzio and Edna Sadoski, both of Brockton; and three grandchildren.     • TURNER, JOHN A. "JACK," 75, of St. Petersburg, died Wednesday (May 17, 2000) at Bayfront Medical Center. A St. Petersburg native, he attended St. Petersburg High School, Boston University and the Citadel, Charleston, S.C., where he was on a championship boxing team. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with C Company, 506 Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. He jumped in the Normandy Invasion, Holland Invasion and at Bastogne. His division was given two presidential citations and he was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Bronze Star. He worked as a hotel manager and was a Golden Gloves champion. Survivors include two sons, John A. Jr. and James, and two daughters, Lisa Till and Sara Gustafson, all of St. Petersburg; a brother, Dr. Robert D., Palm Desert, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Allie, Chelsea, Sarah and Ben. David C.     • TOLAND, COLM "TOM," 67, of South Pasadena, died Tuesday (May 16, 2000) at home. Born in Ireland, he came here in 1994 from Brooklyn, N.Y. He was a distribution assemblyman for UPS for 32 years and a member of St. John's Catholic Church, St. Pete Beach. He was an avid angler and an Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include three sisters, Margaret O'Brien and Ann Wrenn, both of England, and Mary Jane McEleney, Ireland; and several nieces and nephews.     • CROCK, BEVERLY S., 78, of Treasure Island, died Thursday (May 18, 2000) at Colonial Care Center. Born in Marblehead, Mass., she came here in 1969 from Rockville, Md. She was a homemaker and a member of Praise Cathedral Church of God, Pinellas Park. Survivors include a son, David J., Treasure Island; a daughter, Diane Comeaux, Orlando; and six grandchildren, Evan, Michelle and Nathan Crock, all of Treasure Island, and Baron, Logan and Pamela Comeaux, all of Orlando.     • WAECHTER, MAX D., 81, of Treasure Island, died Tuesday (May 16, 2000) at Hospice House Woodside, Pinellas Park. Born in Akron, Ind., he came here in 1985 from Elkhart, Ind., where he was owner of Max's Barber Shop for 25 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of First Church of the Brethren, St. Petersburg. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Inez; a son, Tim, Amarillo, Texas; three daughters, Melinda Beutel, Treasure Island, Patrice Heller, Cape Coral, and Pamela Waechter, Treasure Island; two sisters, Elizabeth Miller, Treasure Island, and Laura Minilli, Elkhart; and four grandchildren.
