  • LEVASSEUR, THELMA MAE, 93, of Orange Lake, died Friday (June 2, 2000) at Seven Rivers Community Hospital, Crystal River. Born in Middletown, Ill., she came here 13 years ago from Springfield, Ill., and was a retired factory worker. She was Christian. Survivors include a son, Dean Davison, Orange Lake; a daughter, Pauline Stonesiefer, Crystal River; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.   • MAYER, BETTY JANE, 76, of Citrus Springs, died Thursday (June 1, 2000) at Surry Place. Born in Gas City, Ind., she came here seven years ago from Bradenton. She was a homemaker.   • VARNEY, ALBERT JENNINGS JR., 82, of Crystal River, died Wednesday (May 31, 2000) at home. Born in Williamson, W.Va., he came here 42 years ago from Abbeville, S.C. He was a professional musician and director of music and fine arts for the Citrus County school system, retiring after 27 years, and a member of First Baptist Church, Crystal River. He received a master's degree in music at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner, founder of the Citrus County Concerts, a past member of the Kiwanis International Homosassa Chapter and a member of the National Music Educators Association. Survivors include his wife, Gene Adams; three sons, Russell, Temple Terrace, and Mark and Brad, both of Crystal River; a daughter, Elaine Varney Panuska, Nova Scotia; and three grandchildren. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post 99, Brooksville, the Disabled American Veterans and the CBI Veterans of America. She was born in Sanford, Maine, and was a winter resident here for several years. She was the owner, editor and publisher of Gateway to Maine magazine from 1982 to 1997, when she retired. From 1978 to 1982, she was administrative assistant of the York County Special Education Program. She was a member of the York Beach Merchants association, the York Chamber of Commerce and the York Historical Society. Survivors include three daughters, Deborah A. Curtis Advertising Agency of Indianapolis and San Francisco for more than 20 years. She served with the American Red Cross in Europe during World War II. She was a Christian Scientist and a member of the Retired Officers Association.     • WATSON, DOROTHY L., 75, of Town Shores, St. Petersburg, died Thursday (June 1, 2000) at College Harbor Retirement Center. Born in Cotter, Ark., she came here 28 years ago. She retired in 1971 as a lieutenant colonel after 23 years with the Army, having served during World War II with the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps. During her military career she served at Fort Lee, Va., Fort Hachucha, Ariz., Camp Zama, Japan, New York, West Point and Hiedelberg, Germany. Her last assignment was as deputy adjutant general chief of the Military Personnel Branch, Fort Hood, Texas. She attended Draughns Business School and was a graduate of the University of Arkansas. She received a master's degree in business administration from Indiana University. She was an avid golfer and sports fan and was Christian. Survivors include a brother, Joe Watson, Belfair, Wash.; and a sister, Mary Medley, Chesterfield, Mo. Gulfport Memorial Funeral Home.
