NIXON, HOWARD CHARLES JR., 75, of Inverness, died Saturday (June 17, 2000) at home. Born in Sheridan, Pa., he came here four years ago from Margate and was retired owner of Rogers Venetian Products, Pompano Beach. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the Floral City VFW and was Protestant. Survivors include his wife, June Thomas; a son, Thomas, Parkland; a daughter, Jeri Ann Ziebarth, Inverness; a sister, Elaine Nixon, Inverness; and six grandchildren. Chas. E. BAUMGARTNER, ALLEN W., 52, of Brooksville, died Friday (June 16, 2000) at Brooksville Regional Hospital. Born in Decatur, Ind., he came here 13 years ago from Huntington, Ind., and was owner/operator of AKB Transport. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and was Protestant. BIALY, FELICIA, 74, of Spring Hill, died Friday (June 16, 2000) at Oak Hill Hospital. Born in Lockport, N.Y., she came here 15 years ago from Niagara Falls, N.Y., and was a nurse aide and activities coordinator for a local nursing home. She was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church and its prayer group. CATES, CHARLES LEROY, 80, of Dunnellon, died Friday (June 16, 2000) at home. He came here 15 years ago from his native Miami and was a retired heavy equipment operator for the coral mining industry. DAUSCH, DONALD LEE, 75, of Brooksville, died Friday (June 16, 2000) at home. Born in Vernon, Ind., he came here 31 years ago from Salem, Ind., and was a sales and parks manager for Baird Mobile Homes. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of Salem Chapter 286 F&AM and the Brooksville Christian Church. PEARCE, BURTON KEATH, DVM, 82, of Brooksville, died Saturday (June 17, 2000) at Oak Hill Hospital. Born in Hillsdale, Mich., he came here 10 years ago from Coldwater, Mich., and was a retired veterinarian. BROWN, CHARLES JR., 82, of Brandon, died Friday (June 16, 2000) at Brandon Hospital. Born in New York City, he came here eight years ago from Phoenix. He was a tariff examiner for the Interstate Commerce Commission and a member of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church. RODGERS, DR. RICHARD C., 83, of Tampa, died Saturday (June 17, 2000) in Tampa. Born in Mulberry, he came here in 1933 from Lakeland. He was a physician and Army veteran of World War II. He started Palma Ceia Medical Clinic in 1947 and founded the Institute for Human Values. He was a graduate of Henry B. Plant High School and a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Florida. He graduated from Emory Medical School as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. He was Protestant. Survivors include three sons, Richard C. Jr., Oakland, Calif., James W., Atlanta, and Dr. Thomas P., Elmira, N.Y.; a daughter, Ann E. Rodgers, Los Angeles; a brother, William S. Jr., Valrico; and five grandchildren. STUCK, JEAN "LEAH," 74, of Tampa, died Saturday (June 17, 2000) in Tampa. Born in Huntington, W.Va., she came here in 1955 from Charleston, W.Va. - CHIARIELLO, JOAN H., 70, of St. Petersburg, died Saturday (June 17, 2000) at Alpine Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Irvington, N.J., she came here in 1972 from Verona, N.J. She was a baker for Mayflower DCA in Elizabeth, N.J. for 27 years. She was a member of St. Jude's Cathedral, a lifetime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a lifetime ABC and T union member. Survivors include four brothers, Robert Edward and Frank P., both of St. Petersburg, Ronald G., Rockville, Md. and Mark D., Kenneth City; a sister, Theresa J. - PARVIN, THE REV. RALPH S., 79, of Bradenton, formerly of St. Petersburg, died Thursday (June 15, 2000) at Bayfront Medical Center. Born in Bradenton, he came here in 1995 from Lakeland where he had lived since 1993 when he came from Holly, Mich. He was a former delivery person for the Bradenton Herald for five years before he attended Maryville, Tenn., College, where he worked for the grounds and custodial departments and sang for the a capella choir. He attended the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He worked at the Presbytery of Knoxville, Tenn., and taught Vacation Bible School. He was a student pastor at several southern Indiana churches, before moving to Levi, Ky., where he was the pastor at Levi Presbyterian Church and St. Helen's Presbyterian Church. He was ordained a Presbyterian minister in 1946. He served as Pastor of the Calvary Presbyterian Church, Ann Arbor, Mich., and the Holly, Mich., Presbyterian Church, both for 13 years. He retired as a pastor in 1986, and was named Pastor Emeritus of the Holly Presbyterian Church by the Presbytery of Lake Huron at the request of the congregation. He was a member of the Tampa Bay Presbytery. Survivors include his wife, Mary Shaw; two daughters, Ruth Anita Sloat, Petoskey, Mich., and Roberta Ellen Hetzell, Fayetteville, Ohio; two sons, Paul David, Holly, and Mark, Grand Blanc, Mich.; two brothers, the Rev. Wilbur Rood Parvin, Summerville, S.C., and Charles, Bradenton; a sister, Roberta Tucker, St. Petersburg; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Shannon Funeral Home, Town Chapel, Bradenton.
- SPICER, ALBIRDA "GRANNY," 92, of St. Petersburg, died Friday (June 16, 2000) at St. Anthony's Hospital. Born in Memphis, she came here in 1994 from Detroit, where she was a retired hotel manager. She was a member of True Vine Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, where she served on the Mother's Board, the Nursing Guild and the Missionary Board. She attended Emmanuel Christian Fellowship, St. Petersburg. Survivors include eight grandchildren, Rosemarie Gresham, Danny Clinton, Arthur Clinton Jr., and Desiree Burk, Ardaniel Burk and Denise Burk, all of Detroit, Michael Bell, Lansing, Mich., and Coa-Coa Rivers, St. Petersburg; 19 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. - STEWART, ALLIE L., 80, of St. Petersburg, died Saturday (June 17, 2000) at home. She came here many years ago from her native Wadley, Ga. She was a certified nurses assistant working in private homes. She was a graduate of Gibbs High School, and was a lifetime member of Moore's Chapel AME Church where she served on Choir 1, the Young Women's Auxiliary and the Stewardess' Board. Survivors include a son, Daniel Allen Sr., St. Petersburg; a sister, Momon Richardson, Philadelphia; and three grandchildren, Nina Allen and Daniel Allen Jr., both of St. Petersburg, and Dawn Allen, Philadelphia; and 11 great-grandchildren. - UHLER, WILLIAM M., 97, of St. Petersburg, died Wednesday (June 14, 2000) at Huber Gardens, St. Petersburg. Born in Alexandria, Va., he came here in 1972. He was a 43-year Navy veteran who commanded the first Navy WAVES officers while stationed at the Philadelphia Navy Yard in 1941. He taught himself the wireless code at the age of 5 and obtained his wireless license, call letters WTAR, in 1909 at the age of 7. At age 15, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard. He taught wireless operating at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn. In 1921, he enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserves and was stationed in London, where he met and married, for the first time, Amy Joyce Atkinson, a longtime local civic and community activist. He returned to the states, where he taught wireless communications at Loomis Radio College in Washington D.C. Before joining the Navy, he began radio station WTAR in Norfolk, Va., which is still in operation today. He joined the Navy in 1925 and was stationed in Cuba during World War II where he interpreted codes that were intercepted from the Germans. He was the senior wireless operator and communications officer for RCA from 1968 until his retirement in 1972 when he moved to St. Petersburg. Divorced in 1925, he and Amy Joyce Atkinson married in 1986. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, St. Petersburg, the Retired Officer's Association, the St. Petersburg Chapter of the Navy League and was a former member of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club. - WELLS, WILLIAM ESTON JR., of Columbia, S.C., formerly of St. Petersburg, died Friday (June 16, 2000) in Columbia. He was born in St. Petersburg and lived here during his youth, before moving to Durham, N.C. to attend college and settling in Columbia. He was a 1949 graduate of Duke University, Durham, and was an insurance agent in Columbia for more than 40 years. He was a Navy volunteer during World War II and an Army volunteer during the Korean War. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Columbia, for 50 years, and was active in youth baseball for 20 years. Survivors include his wife, Martha Fetner; three daughters, Stephanie Mungo, Mary Ann Cole and Martha Belue Wells; a son, Dr. William Wells III; and five grandchildren, Eric William Sutton, Nicole Alicia Wells, Joshua Mark Wells, Brianna Mae Mungo and Madalyn Eve Mungo. - WHITE, JOHN CALVIN, 73, of St. Petersburg, died Saturday (June 17, 2000) at Edward White Hospital. He was born in Roanoke, Ala. and came here many years ago. He was a sorter for the U.S. Postal Service at the 31st Street Post Office for 25 years. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, where he was a church elder. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge 139, St. Petersburg, a member of the Order of Amaranth, the St. Petersburg Scottish Rites and was a member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. Survivors include his wife of nine years, Marjorie; a daughter, Diane Lamb, Norfolk, Va.; two brothers, Billy and Jackie, Opelika, Ala.; three sisters, Margaret Dollar, Mohee Bozman and Ann Lipham, all of Alabama; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
