Breaching dams makes sense
Unlike many environmental debates, the issue of whether to breach four federally funded dams on the Snake River in Washington does not pit profit against preservation. The proposed move, which would protect eight species of salmon and trout from extinction while restoring their natural environment, makes good ecological and economic sense.

Congressional Republicans opposed to U.S food and medicine sales to Cuba say there's a big difference between China, a communist country with which the United States trades, and Cuba, a communist country with which it has not traded in almost half a century. But to read the State Department's latest human rights report, it's hard to see much difference when it comes to political freedom.
