  • HAMILL, GEORGE, 89, of Homosassa, formerly of St. Petersburg, died Saturday (June 17, 2000). Born in Ireland, he came here 30 years ago from St. Petersburg. He was the former owner of Hamill Construction and also a former employee at Homosassa Springs Wildlife Attraction. Survivors include his wife, Eileen D. Marston; two sons, Norman G., Homosassa, and Thomas, East Point, Mich.; two brothers, Tom and Raymond, both of Ireland; three sisters, Annie, Bennie and Sadie, all of Ireland; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.   • HUGHES, JOAN J., 61, of Sugarmill Woods, Homosassa, formerly of Seminole, died Friday (June 16, 2000) at Oak Hill Hospital, Spring Hill. Born in Hamilton, Ohio, she came here three years ago from Seminole. She was a postal clerk for 23 years at the St. Petersburg and Madeira Beach post offices.   • NORRIS, HELEN LAKE, 85, of Crystal River, formerly of St. Petersburg, died Sunday (June 18, 2000) at Shands at the University of Florida, Gainesville. Born in Hartford, Ky., she came here 24 years ago from St. Petersburg, where she had lived since 1956. She was a retired bookkeeper and secretary for her husband's business, Norris & Lake Pump Service. She was a member of Crystal River United Methodist Church and the Central City High School Alumni Association.   • BAILEY, GEORGE ERNEST, 78, of Tampa, died Sunday (June 18, 2000) at St. Joseph's Hospital. Born in Weston, W.Va., he came here in 1995 from Cleveland. He was a high school teacher and an Army Air Forces veteran who served as one of the Tuskegee Airmen of World War II. He was Protestant.   • HUDDLESTON, LEO N., 77, of Treasure Island and Tampa, died Friday (June 16, 2000) at home. Born in Albuquerque, N.M., he came here in 1964 from Rockford, Ill. He retired in 1970 from STRIKE Command at MacDill Air Force Base as a commander after more than 27 years with the Navy, having served during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars. During World War II he served as a "frogman" with Underwater Demolition Team 13, responsible for preparing the beaches at Iwo Jima and Okinawa before the initial landing of assault troops. He was awarded the Silver Star. He retired in 1996 from the Florida Real Estate Commission and Florida Department of Professional Regulation. He studied music at Abilene (Texas) Christian College and attended Kansas State Teachers College, University of New Mexico, U.S. Naval Intelligence School, Anacostia, District of Columbia, and U.S. Army Language School at the Presidio. He sang with many choral groups, including the Choral Arts Society of Largo, and was a member of Master Chorale of Tampa Bay since 1983. His memberships included, Retired Officers Association, UDT/SEAL Association, U.S. Naval Institute, U.S. Naval Reserve Association, Navy League, American Legion, VFW and DAV. Survivors include his wife, Betty L.; four daughters, Sonja Nash, Lubbock, Texas, Lea "Babs" Davis, Wilmington, Del., Ania Hansen, Seminole, and Cynthia Williams, St. Petersburg; two sisters, Dorsa Manning, Holtville, Calif., and Patt Berardinelli, Santa Fe, N.M.; and three grandchildren. He was born in St. Petersburg and moved here in 1982. He graduated in 1984 from Dunedin High School and worked as a sales manager for American National Life Insurance Co., St. Petersburg. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include two daughters, Chauncey Dinkins, Tampa, and Shayna Dinkins, Clearwater; his mother, Bonnie Butler-Roseway, Largo; his father, Robert Dinkins; two brothers, Robby A. Dinkins and Erik Watkins, both of Clearwater; a sister, Ciarra E.   • GRIGGLEY, TERRENCE B., 35, of Clearwater, died Saturday (June 17, 2000) as the result of an automobile accident in Clearwater. He came here in 1967 from his native Donalsonville, Ga., and graduated in 1984 from Clearwater High School. He worked as a recreation leader for the Clearwater Parks and Recreation Department. In 1994, he was inducted into the Clearwater High School Basketball Hall of Fame, and he was also a football star. He played basketball for St. Petersburg Junior College, and football for Florida State University, Tallahassee, and McNeese State University, New Orleans. Survivors include a son, Terrence B. He was an accountant and worked for General Motors Corp., Hamilton, Ohio. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was born in Methuen, Mass.; lived in North Chelmsford, Mass., from 1949 until in 1970, when he moved to Wilmington, Mass.; and in 1977 moved to Seabrook. He was a winter resident here for many years. He graduated in 1931 from Northeastern University and for many years he worked as assistant manager of Sears, Roebuck and Co. in Lowell and Quincy, Mass. In 1949, he founded the North Chelmsford Hardware Store and was a co-owner. In 1952 he founded and owned and operated Silver Lake Hardware Store, from which he retired in 1973. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the North Chelmsford Knights of Columbus, Chelmsford Lions Club, director and man of the year in 1962 of the Wilmington Rotary Club, past president of the Happy Senior Citizens Club in Seabrook, the first chairman of the Seabrook Housing Authority and director and coordinator of bingo at Golden Crest, Dunedin.     • BLOCKER, MARGARET ANN, 72, of Hendersonville, N.C., formerly of St. Petersburg, died Saturday (June 17, 2000) at Pardee Memorial Hospital in Hendersonville, N.C., after a five-year battle with cancer. A St. Petersburg native, she was the daughter of John C. Blocker Jr. and the granddaughter of John C. Blocker Sr., St. Petersburg pioneers. A 1945 graduate of St. Petersburg High School, she moved to Hendersonville in 1954. Her grandfather arrived in St. Petersburg in 1888 as an engineer on the Orange Belt Railroad. Her father served as county attorney in Pinellas for 24 years. A longtime member of the Hendersonville Board of Realtors, Mrs. Blocker was associated with Barnette & Coates Inc. for the past 26 years. She was a member of Graduate Realtors Institute and the National Association of Realtors. As a member of the North Carolina Association of Realtors, she served as director and was currently serving on the State Ethics Committee. She was awarded Realtor of the Year in 1987 and received the Realtor Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997. She was active in Democratic politics in Florida and North Carolina.     • FINE, GERALD W. "G.W.," 79, of St. Petersburg, died Sunday (June 18, 2000) at Westminster Shores Health Center. Born in Cleveland, he came here in 1956 from Aurora, Ohio. He was a president and founder of Southern Industrial Supply Co. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II and a P-51 fighter pilot instructor at Marana Air Force Base, Ariz. He flew missions out of Huntington Royal Air Force Base, England, and was awarded a gold medal by King Gustaf of Sweden. He was a member of Pasadena Community Church, 364th Fighter Pilots Group Association, Eighth Air Force Association, Antelope Club and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.     • PARVIN, THE REV. RALPH S., 79, of St. Petersburg, died Thursday (June 15, 2000) at Bayfront Medical Center. Born in Bradenton, he moved to Lakeland in 1993 from Holly, Mich., and to St. Petersburg in 1995. He was a delivery person for the Bradenton Herald for five years before attending Maryville (Tenn.) College, where he worked for the grounds and custodial departments and sang with the a capella choir. He attended LouisvillePresbyterian Theological Seminary and was ordained a Presbyterian minister in 1946. He worked for the Presbytery of Knoxville, Tenn., and taught Vacation Bible School. He was a student pastor at several southern Indiana churches before moving to Levi, Ky., where he was pastor at Levi Presbyterian Church and St. Helen's Presbyterian Church. He served as pastor of Calvary Presbyterian Church, Ann Arbor, Mich., for 13 years and retired in 1986 after 13 years as pastor of Holly Presbyterian Church, where he was named pastor emeritus. He was a member of the Tampa Bay Presbytery.     • SPURGEON, JUDY, of St. Petersburg, died Saturday (June 17, 2000) at Bayfront Medical Center. Born in Indianapolis, she came here in 1986 from Pendleton, Ind. She was a homemaker. Survivors include a son, Casey Call, Indianapolis; a daughter, Kerry Bingham, Farmington, N.M.; two stepsons, Mark, Belleview, and Chris, Indianapolis; a stepdaughter, Jan DesRoches, Indianapolis; a sister, Jacquie Lavoie, St. Petersburg; and five grandchildren.     • UHLER, WILLIAM M., 97, of St. Petersburg, died Wednesday (June 14, 2000) at Huber Gardens, St. Petersburg. Born in Alexandria, Va., he came here in 1972. He was a 43-year Navy veteran who commanded the first Navy WAVES officers while stationed at the Philadelphia Navy Yard in 1941. He taught himself the wireless code at the age of 5 and obtained his wireless license, call letters WTAR, in 1909 at the age of 7. At age 15, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard. He taught wireless operating at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn. In 1921, he enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserves and was stationed in London, where he met and married, for the first time, Amy Joyce Atkinson, a longtime local civic and community activist. He returned to the states, where he taught wireless communications at Loomis Radio College in Washington, D.C. Before joining the Navy, he began radio station WTAR in Norfolk, Va., which is still in operation today. He joined the Navy in 1925 and was stationed in Cuba during World War II where he interpreted codes that were intercepted from the Germans. He was the senior wireless operator and communications officer for RCA from 1968 until his retirement in 1972 when he moved to St. Petersburg. Divorced in 1925, he and Amy Joyce Atkinson remarried in 1986. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, St. Petersburg, the Retired Officers Association, the St. Petersburg Chapter of the Navy League and was a former member of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club.     • WILLIAMS, RUGH G., 84, of St. Petersburg, died Monday (June 19, 2000) at home. Born in Indiana, Pa., she came here in 1956 from Mount Vernon, N.Y. Survivors include two daughters, Ingrid L. Kohler, St. Petersburg, and Ruth Ann Harper, Treasure Island; a brother, Calvin N. Williams, Prophetstown, Ill.; three sisters, Ann W. Cox, Falls Church, Va., and Kathryn W. Vite and Cecile J.     Treasure Island

    • HUDDLESTON, LEO N., 77, of Treasure Island and Tampa, died Friday (June 16, 2000) at home. Born in Albuquerque, N.M., he came here in 1964 from Rockford, Ill. He retired in 1970 from STRIKE Command at MacDill Air Force Base as a commander after more than 27 years with the Navy, having served during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars. During World War II he served as a "frogman" with Underwater Demolition Team 13, responsible for preparing the beaches at Iwo Jima and Okinawa before initial landing of assault troops. He was awarded the Silver Star. He retired in 1996 from the Florida Real Estate Commission and Florida Department of Professional Regulation. He studied music at Abilene (Texas) Christian College and attended Kansas State Teachers College, University of New Mexico, U.S. Naval Intelligence School, Anacostia, Md., and U.S. Army Language School at the Presidio. He sang with many choral groups, including the Choral Arts Society of Largo, and was a member of Master Chorale of Tampa Bay since 1983. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he sang with the choir, drove the church bus and was a council member. He was a volunteer at the Retiree Activities Office at MacDill AFB. Other memberships include Retired Officers Association, UDT/SEAL Association, U.S. Naval Institute, U.S. Naval Reserve Association, Navy League, American Legion, VFW and DAV. Survivors include his wife, Betty L.; four daughters, Sonja Nash, Lubbock, Texas, Lea "Babs" Davis, Wilmington, Del., Ania Hansen, Seminole, and Cynthia Williams, St. Petersburg; two sisters, Dorsa Manning, Holtville, Calif., and Patt Berardinelli, Santa Fe, N.M.; and three grandchildren.     • HUGHES, JOAN J., 61, of Homosassa, formerly of Seminole, died Friday (June 16, 2000) at Oak Hill Hospital, Spring Hill. She was born in Hamilton, Ohio, and moved to Homosassa in 1997 from Seminole. She retired after 23 years with the U.S. Postal Service, where she worked as a clerk at the St. Petersburg and Madeira Beach post offices. She was also a floral designer and an antique dealer at Park Street Antiques. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Indian Rocks Beach.
