A degree of success
It was a struggle, but a doctorate in education completes Israel Peniel's long road back from homelessness and addiction.
Story

Web brings wider range of radio
As choices over the airwaves dwindle, the Internet is a haven for those seeking something else.
Story

  • The Best Online Radio Sites
Check out these sites for some cool online audio programs.
  • Local stations go live online
When you can't come to the radio, now the radio can come to you.
  • How to listen to radio on the Web
Many online radio or audio streams can be played through Real Audio's RealPlayer software, Apple's QuickTime or Microsoft's Windows Media Player, all of which are available for free download from each company's Web site. (Sites often present links to the program that works best with their material).

A show of diversity
Cable stations such as Nickelodeon and Showtime heed the call for more portrayals of minorities on television. But dramas that focus on Latino and black families walk a thin line with viewers.

Born to sing
Chloe Lowery has places to go, and that has been the plan all along for this ambitious 12-year-old Largo singer, who already has a recording contract.

Gather 'round the PC
When cool geeks and geekettes head to ACE computer camp at USF, they're sure to hear plenty of spooky stories (of failed programs), challenge their athletic prowess (one, two, three, go code!) and toast marshmallows (uhh, post them online?)

Life on the streets
I guess I'm what you would call a street kid. I don't know how I ended up this way, but it is my life. I don't spend my time every day trying to figure out what to wear; the clothes I wear are the same as all my other street friends. We dress alike because we are alike. I am not trying to make a statement that I'm a "bad" kid with what I wear. I know my place and I know my friends and we are all from the street, trying to survive.
