HEJL, GEORGE J., 87, of Dade City, formerly of Floral City, died Saturday (July 15, 2000) at Royal Oak Nursing Center. Born in Chicago, he moved to Dade City two years ago from Floral City and was a foreman for a building carpenter. He was Catholic and an Army veteran. Survivors include a son, Bernard, Dade City; two sisters, Rose York, Saugatuck, Mich., and Alice McMillan, Sonoma, Calif.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was a World War II Army veteran and member of the American Legion Post 111 and was Christian. She was a Navy veteran of World War I with the rank of yeoman first class. Survivors include a daughter, Shirley B. She was born in Brattleboro, Vt., and came here in 1990 from Malden, Mass. She retired as a secretary for the Zayre Corp. She was a member of Anona United Methodist Church of Largo, the Gilbert & Sullivan Society, Sudbury, Mass. Survivors include four daughters, Emily and Elizabeth Ambler and Susanna Schramek, all of Palm Harbor, and Martha Emerson, Newport, R.I.; a brother, Jason Montgomery, Edmonton, Can.; and four grandchildren. - CLEMSON, CHARLOTTE MARY, 92, of Gresham, Ore., formerly of Clearwater, died Saturday (July 15, 2000) at a care center in Gresham. She came here after she retired in 1969 from the Department of the Army and in 1995, she moved to Gresham. She was a member and Sunday School teacher at Calvary Baptist Church, Clearwater. - McKEEL, DEREK ANTHONY, 36, of Bradenton, died Friday (July 14, 2000) at Blake Medical Center, Bradenton. He was born in Milwaukee and lived in Clearwater from 1966 to 1981 and from 1987 to 1989 when he moved to Bradenton. - BROOKS, WILLARD R. "BILL," 83, of Dunedin, died Saturday (July 15, 2000) at home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. He was born in Appalachia, Va., and came here in 1977 from Maryland where he worked for the federal government at Fort Meade, Md. He was a Navy veteran of World War II with the rank of bosun's mate first class. He served in the Pacific Theater and received a Bronze Star. He graduated from Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee. He was a member of Curlew Baptist Church, Palm Harbor, a 63-year member of Masonic Lodge 192 F&AM, Dunedin, Appalachia Lodge 229 in Virginia, Scottish Rite Valley of Tampa and the Shrine in North Carolina. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Robin; a daughter, Robin B. Rodbell, and a grandson, Nathaniel Rodbell, both of Fredericksburg, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. - WOODRING, MATTHEW D., 29, of Dunedin, died Friday (July 7, 2000) at the Hazleton General Hospital, Hazleton, Pa. He came here in 1982 from his native Hazleton. He worked as a carpenter. Survivors include his parents, Beverly and George Woodring, Dunedin; two sisters, Christine Hoffman, Dunedin, and Lori Reilly, Shillington, Pa.; and several aunts, uncles and nieces and nephews. He was a senior at East Lake High School, Palm Harbor, and worked as a waiter at Eve's Family Restaurant, Oldsmar. He had enlisted in the Air Force and was to begin his service after graduation next year. - HOFFMANN, CARL DAVID "DAVE," 81, of Seminole, a former resident of Redington Beach and St. Petersburg, died Saturday (July 15, 2000), at home. He was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and moved to St. Petersburg in 1964 from Duluth, Minn. He moved to Redington Beach in 1966 and to Seminole in 1998. He retired from the Air Force with the rank of lieutenant colonel. In World War II he was a squadron commander in the first Flying Fortress group to leave Tampa's MacDill Air Force Base for England. He completed 50 combat missions over Europe and later took part in the Berlin Air Lift. He also served in Korea. He received the Silver Star medal. He was a director of Florida Presbyterian College and active in real estate and Kiwanis International. He was a member of Pasadena Community Church. He graduated from Illinois Technical University. He was an Army Air Corps and Merchant Marine veteran of World War II. - WATSON, DOROTHY BEE "DOT," 60, of St. Petersburg, died Monday (July 17, 2000) at home. A native of Jonestown, Miss., she came here in 1961. She was a domestic worker and a member of Holy Ghost Church of God Purchased with His Blood, where she was president of the first choir and treasurer of the state woman's convention. She was an avid seamstress and cook. Survivors include five sons, Willie Clinton, Anthony and Tony Watson and Tony Simmons, all of St. Petersburg, and Kenny Moon, Newport News, Va.; seven daughters, Darlene Holmes, Barbara, Tammie and Phyllis Watson and Tonya McGhee, all of St. Petersburg, Gwendolyn Cook, Miami, and Vanessa Thomas, Decatur, Ga.; her mother, Mamie Baber, and two sisters, Mamie Bates and Orean Jenkins, all of St. Petersburg; 21 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. - DAVIDSON, J. WILLIAM "BILL," 94, of Seminole, died Saturday (July 8, 2000) at Seminole Nursing Pavilion. He was born in Chicago and came here in 1972 from Highland Park, Ill. He retired in 1971 as vice president of the First National Bank of Lake Forest, Ill., and served two terms as president of the Lake Forest Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Margaret; a son, John R., Chicago; a daughter, Susan D. Schipper, Greenwood Village, Colo.; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. - HOFFMANN, CARL DAVID "DAVE," 81, of Seminole, a former resident of Redington Beach and St. Petersburg, died Saturday (July 15, 2000), at home. He was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and moved to St. Petersburg in 1964 from Duluth, Minn. He moved to Redington Beach in 1966 and to Seminole in 1998. He retired from the Air Force with the rank of lieutenant colonel. In World War II he was a squadron commander in the first Flying Fortress group to leave Tampa's MacDill Air Force Base for England. He completed 50 combat missions over Europe and later took part in the Berlin Air Lift. He also served in Korea. He received the Silver Star medal. He was a director of Florida Presbyterian College and active in real estate and Kiwanis International. He was a member of Pasadena Community Church. He graduated from Illinois Technical University. Survivors include his wife, Frances; two sons, David Stephen, Miami, and John William, Orlando; and four grandchildren. E. James Reese Funeral Home & Crematory, Seminole.
- RITCHIE, CHARLES F. JR., "BUD," 87, of Seminole, died Tuesday (July 11, 2000) at home. He came here in 1975 from his native Parkersburg, W.Va., where he founded and operated the Parkersburg Distributing Co. (Anheuser-Busch wholesalers) since 1933. He was an Army Air Corps and Merchant Marine veteran of World War II. Locally he taught computer skills and was a member and a former flotilla commander of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 73, Madeira Beach. Survivors include a son, David C., Parkersburg; a half-sister, Lillian Logsdon, Daytona Beach; and a companion, Carolyn Farnham, St. Petersburg. Neptune Society, Palm Harbor.
