TORONTO -- Umpire Mike Van Vleet warned Rick White about throwing a pitch inside to Tony Batista. Somebody should have warned him about throwing a pitch right down the middle to Batista.

  TORONTO -- The pain was so sharp in Vinny Castilla's hand and wrist, he was not sure where the ball had hit him.
• Flaherty takes care not to cross line
  TORONTO -- Before the game began, umpire Ronald Kulpa told Rays catcher John Flaherty he would be ejected if he crossed the line.
• FSL Rays lose in four-run ninth
  ST. PETERSBURG -- Jeff Sparks walked in a run with the bases loaded in the ninth inning, and James Lira allowed a two-run single to Danny Haas as the Red Sox scored four runs in the ninth to beat the Rays 7-6.
• Neagle is perfectly happy with Yankees
  Denny Neagle will be a free agent at the end of the season. Don't expect the Yankees' newest pitcher to roam far from New York.
