Outdoors
Captain's Corner
Heavy rains can put a damper on most fishing trips but anglers who wait for storms to stop usually will find bay waters calm, and fishing grounds void of other anglers. Smooth water makes it easier to spot fish as they move around in the shallow water, and lack of noise from other boats helps entice fish to feed. Rain and overcast skies drop water temperatures, which usually triggers a feeding period.

Arena football
Earlier start suits Marcum
When Arena Football officials called Storm coach Tim Marcum last week to ask him when he wanted to play his post-season opener -- 4 or 8 p.m. Saturday -- Marcum did not hesitate in telling them 8.

Lightning
Cloutier, Hay agree to 1-year deals
The Lightning has agreed to terms with two more free agents, including goaltender Dan Cloutier, the players' agent said Tuesday.

Mutiny
Mutiny blanked in early exit at U.S. Open Cup
In five years of playing in the U.S. Open Cup, the Mutiny has never advanced to the quarterfinals. The streak remained intact Tuesday night with a 3-0 loss to New York/New Jersey at Mitchel Stadium in Uniondale, N.Y.
