THAT SINKING FEELING: Dozens of sinkholes opened in the vicinity of Spring Hill, mostly along Mariner Boulevard, closing down a segment of that road for about a week. Four homes have been declared structurally unsound as a result of sinkholes in the area. The sinkhole proliferation is blamed on conditions created by the long drought (possibly exacerbated by pumping) coupled with the sudden onset of torrential rains.
