Tourism council heads for new home
BROOKSVILLE -- The Hernando County Tourist Development Council is close to getting new digs at a Welcome Center near Interstate 75 on State Road 50 in Ridge Manor West. Based on approval Thursday by the TDC board, tourism coordinator Sue Rupe will draft a lease for a small piece of property near the Holiday Inn and Hampton Inn, Rupe said. She hopes to send the lease to the County Commission for final approval by the end of August. The lease will be for a slice of land owned by Inn Serv Corp. on the access road leading to the Holiday Inn. The TDC plans to put a 24- by 56-foot modular office building it owns on the site and move its offices there . Landscaping plans will tie into the Gateway Project, a beautification effort by state and local officials to landscape 1,900 feet of medians on each side of the interstate with crape myrtle trees and coral honeysuckle. The TDC's lease will cost $200 a month for the first five years and $300 a month for the second five years.
