Tuition and fees are about the only financial certainties when it comes to sending the kids off to college. Parents learn quickly that associated costs can be much higher than expected.

• Congress gives college savers a boost
  If college expenses are in your future, Uncle Sam has a couple of great deals for you: 529 college savings plans and the vastly improved Coverdell Education Savings Accounts, formerly known as the Education IRA.

On the Level of Elgin, Ill., sells the Superlevel, a package of four screw-in, spring-loaded gadgets, for $13. Another company devised a tiny plastic ramp called the SHUV-IT. A third gadget is called the Wobble Stopper.
