Business today
JUNE WHOLESALE SALES GROW: June sales at U.S. wholesalers showed their biggest gain in seven months, outpacing a rise in inventories, the Commerce Department said. Wholesale sales rose 1.4 percent in June after rising 0.4 percent the previous month, while inventories at distributors rose 1 percent in June, matching May's increase. The June sales increase exceeded expectations.

Business briefs
Scripps to buy Florida paper: The E.W. Scripps Co. said it will buy the Marco Island (Fla.) Eagle from the New York Times Co. The company declined to say what it will pay for the Eagle, a weekly newspaper with a circulation of about 10,000. The Eagle will add to Scripps' newspaper holdings in southwest Florida, where the company already owns and operates the Naples Daily News and the Bonita Banner. Also in Florida, Scripps owns the Stuart News and the Vero Beach Press-Journal.
