HIGHLAND PARK APPROVED: Developer Bill Bishop, at the center of a controversial land deal with Hillsborough County, won approval Tuesday for his 520-home community off Race Track and S Mobley roads. The County Commission voted 5-2 in favor of Highland Park, which includes public buildings and 50,000 square feet of commercial space. But a contentious discussion mirrored tension the land swap has generated the past two years. Commissioner Jan Platt, who joined Commissioner Jim Norman in voting against the deal, raised ethical questions about last-minute discussions with neighboring residents who had opposed the project.

Accident report
1. DALE MABRY HIGHWAY AT N LAKEVIEW DRIVE, AUG. 3, 9:50 A.M: A southbound 1998 Chevrolet ran a red light and hit an eastbound 2000 Nissan turning left onto N Lakeview Drive. The Chevy driver, an 18-year-old woman, was charged for disobeying a traffic signal. She was taken to University Community Hospital-Carrollwood.

Road work
1. INTERSTATE 275, from Busch Boulevard to U.S. 41, will have periodic night-time lane closures. Also watch for construction at Busch Boulevard and Fowler Avenue near the interstate. Work will continue until two new lanes are complete in fall 2002.
