GIBBS, RUSSELL, 85, of Inverness, died Friday (Aug. 18, 2000) at Mariner Health Care, Inverness. Born in Folkston, Ga., he spent most of his life in Inverness. He was a retired employee for Sprint and a member of the Church of the Living God. Survivors include his wife, Lona Mae; a son, Isaac, Wichita, Texas; a stepson, Eddie Poe, Inverness; a sister, Lili Anthony, Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren. HOPKINS-WALKER, GERTHA, 46, of Inverness, died Thursday (Aug. 17, 2000) at home. Born in Crystal River, she came here four years ago from St. Petersburg. PERDEW, GEORGE MILTON, 85, of Lecanto, died Tuesday (Aug 22, 2000). Born in Luke, Md., he came here 14 years ago from Guam. He was the vice president of the University of Guam and a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Hernando. WATSON, BLANCHE ADELA, 69, of Crystal River, died Tuesday (Aug. 22, 2000) at Citrus Memorial Hospital. Born in Honduras, she came here 21 years ago from Miami. She was formerly employed at Marks and Morgan Jewelry and Horn's Jewelry, Crystal River. She was a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. GRENIER, FRANCIS E. SR., 72, of Silverthorn, Spring Hill, died Tuesday (Aug. 22, 2000) at home. Born in Detroit, he came here three years ago. He was a retired space station employee for Boeing Corp., Huntsville, Ala., and the owner/president of Grenier Enterprises. He was a member of Unity Church, Port Richey, the Society of Automotive Engineers, the Texas Association of Accident Reconstruction Specialists Inc., the National Association of Professional Accident Reconstructionist Specialists Inc., the Silverthorn Country Club and a past member of Sugarmill Woods Country Club. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0186, Spring Hill, and the Rosicrucian Order. HOLMAN, BERTICE F. "BERT," 97, of Brooksville, died Wednesday (Aug. 23, 2000). Born in Troy, N.H., he came here 28 years ago from Brookfield, N.H. He was the former owner of Wentworth Insurance Agency, Sanbornville, N.H., and a member/deacon of the Wakefield Congregational Church, Wakefield, N.H. He was a member of the Ossipe Rotary Club, the Lions Club, and the Lowell Union Grange 178, all of Wakefield, the New Hampshire State Grange and the National Grange, Washington, D.C. CROSBY, ROBERT H. SR., 68, of Plant City, died Thursday (Aug. 24, 2000) at National Health Care of Plant City. Born in Dover, he was a lifelong resident of the Tampa area. - CRAVEN, JOSEPH, 83, of Clearwater, died Wednesday (Aug. 23, 2000) at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater. He was born in Griggsville, Ill., and came here in 1978 from Springfield, Ill. He worked as an accountant for the federal government. He was an Army veteran of World War II stationed at SHAEF headquarters in London. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the Scottish Rite and Turner Brandon American Legion Post 7, Clearwater. - JOHNSON, FLORENCE L., 70, of Clearwater, died Wednesday (Aug. 23, 2000) at Mease Dunedin Hospital. She was born in Corfu, N.Y., and came here in 1968 from Angola, N.Y. She retired after 15 years with Ann Esther Motel on Clearwater Beach. She was Baptist and a member of Women of the Moose Lodge 996, Clearwater. He graduated with a masters degree from Bridgewater State College. He was an educator and worked 17 years as a teacher and coach and 17 years as the principal of an intermediate school. He was inducted into the athletic halls of fame at both Coyle-Cassidy High School and Bridgewater State College and in 1971 received the Chatham Jaycees Distinguished Service Award. He was an Army Air Corps veteran with the rank of first lieutenant. He was a board member of the May Institute and a volunteer for the St. Vincent DePaul Society for many years. - VAN HORSTEN, JOHN M., 103, a seasonal resident of Largo, died Wednesday (Aug. 23, 2000) at Wright's Nursing Home, Largo. He has been a seasonal resident since 1921, coming from his native Waterbury, Conn. He worked as a finish carpenter for Mattson Co., Waterbury. He was a Navy veteran of World War I and served in France. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a golf pro instructor in Toledo, Jackson, and St. Petersburg, despite losing the fingers of his right hand during his Army service.
