At 7:30 a.m. the St. Petersburg Junior College tour bus loaded with 29 of us headed out from the SPJC Allstate Center campus for the Sunshine Skyway bridge. We would sojourn across Florida for a lively weekend in South Miami Beach, the first SPJC Lifelong Learning weekend trip ever.

Sitting on the green benches around St. Petersburg and watching people and cars go by was a popular pastime in 1963, when Warren and Sandra Daley were newlyweds. He was a barber, and she was a registered nurse, and they both enjoyed sitting on the benches.

A lot of oldies are heavily into traveling, and I like that, too, as long as it isn't on an airplane. But you don't have to go far for adventures. For instance, Fort De Soto Park in south Pinellas County has a lot to offer.
