Fireman Apprentice Nicholas Joseph Manarino, son of Joseph and Jan Manarino of St. Petersburg, completed basic training in July at the U.S. Coast Guard basic training facility at Cape May, N.J. Manarino, a 1999 graduate of Dixie Hollins High School, is stationed in Key West aboard the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Mohawk.

Bike rodeo to help kids practice safety techniques
A free bike rodeo will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Allstate parking lot, 780 Carillon Parkway, St. Petersburg. A part of the "Courtesy Promotes Safety" campaign, community police officers will help with free bike inspections, instructions, registration and safety videos. Free bicycle helmets will be distributed and fitted.. Members of the Joker J BMX Racing Team will display their bikes and uniforms. Kids can run a street test course to practice safety techniques with a certificate of completion awarded to all who finish. Call 578-0823.
