Editorial Notebook: Values revealed in school's naming
The campaign to name a school after J. Crockett Farnell is a good example of what separates old from new Tampa. There is no better illustration. The arguments pro and con show how the values that framed social and political life for generations -- loyalty, honor, where you went to high school -- are fading from the character of our immigrant city.
Commission approves medical center, plaza
County commissioners approved the following petitions last Tuesday: LUTZ: St. Joseph's Baptist Health Care won permission to add floor space to an approved medical center on 38 acres at Van Dyke Road and Calusa Trace Boulevard. The complex will include a 144,000-square-foot hospital, a 300-bed nursing home and 96,000 square feet of office space. (Petition 00-1410)
