CRANE SHOT IN NEW TAMPA: Marshall Adams, who lives on Heron's Cove Place in West Meadows, keeps a close eye on cranes. About two weeks ago, Adams called state wildlife officers to report a sandhill crane limping around his neighborhood. It turns out that the 4-foot bird had been shot in its right leg with a nail gun. "When I saw this, I went nuts," Adams said.
Road work
1. INTERSTATE 275, from Busch Boulevard to U.S. 41, will have periodic night-time lane closures. Also watch for construction at Busch Boulevard and Fowler Avenue near the interstate. Work will continue until two new lanes are complete in fall 2002.
Water plant gets police guard after the attacks
Since the Sept. 11 terror, police are on a 24-hour watch of the Morris Bridge water treatment facility and other unnamed strategic installations.
Accident report
1. EHRLICH ROAD AT CASEY ROAD, SEPT. 21, 12:20 P.M.: An eastbound 1995 Mercedes turned left into the path of a westbound 1976 Mercedes causing minor injuries and major damage to both vehicles. The 1995 Mercedes driver, a 59-year-old woman, was charged with failure to yield right of way.
