Have some fun with a book
Teen Read Week, a national literacy initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association, takes place now through Saturday. This year's theme is "Make Reading a Hobbit." The specially designated week is intended to encourage teenagers to read more often and to read for fun, not just for school. A reading survey and a place to vote for the best book you read this year is available until Monday at www.smartgirl.org.
IT: Homecoming insecurities
Every year at this time, chaotic events take place at my school. I think I am supposed to look forward to homecoming. When I used to hear teenagers talk about homecoming events, football games and the big dance featuring the king and queen, I thought how much fun these times would be. Now, that so-called fun turns out to be little more than anxiety and pressure.
