  • LATHEY, GRADA P., 91, of Dunnellon, died Monday (Oct. 22, 2001) in Inverness. Born in Flat Rock, W.Va., she came here 14 years ago from Miami.   • LiPETRI, ANTHONY D., of Inverness, died Sunday (Oct. 21, 2001) at Citrus Health & Rehabilitation of Inverness. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he came to Florida 28 years ago from Ridgewood, N.Y. He was a retired pressman in the printing industry, was an Army veteran and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4337. He was a member and former usher of Our Lady of Fatima Parish.   • SPINK, CARL C. JR., 81, of Lecanto, formerly of Clearwater, died Sunday (Oct. 21, 2001) at Brentwood Retirement Communities in Lecanto. Born in Poland, N.Y., he came here in 1978 from Clearwater. He was a retired pipefitter employed by Florida Power in Crystal River and was a Air Force veteran. His church affiliation was non-denominational. He was a lifetime member of Local 123 Plumbers Pipefitters, St. Petersburg, member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, member Cessna 170 Association (Pilot). Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jeanette; a son, Sheldon, Largo; two daughters, Jennifer McGinnis, Poynor, Texas, and Beverly Dowling, Inverness; a brother, Harold, Jamestown, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.   • WINAND, HARRY L., 77, of Crystal River, died Sunday (Oct. 21, 2001) at Paoli Memorial Hospital in Paoli, Pa. He was a graduate of Penn State University and worked in newspaper advertising and publishing until his retirement. He was a decorated Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 78th Division in the European theater. He was a certified Florida master gardener. He was a member of St. Timothy's Lutheran Church.   • ALVAREZ, PEDRO JOSE, 78, of Tampa, died Thursday (October 18, 2001) at University Community Hospital. Originally from Caibarien, Cuba, he had a business career, achieving the title of vice president of international affairs for Lone Star Industries prior to retirement. He was an avid fisherman and especially enjoyed fishing in the Ten Thousand Islands area near Marco Island. Survivors include his wife, Antonia; a son, James; and a daughter, Rebecca. She was a teacher for the Department of Defense Dependent School System and taught at military bases in Morocco, Ethiopia and Germany. She was a graduate of Bethany College in West Virginia and the University of Southern California. She was a member of AAUW, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. He was born in Meigs County, Ohio, and came here many years ago from Warren, Ohio, where he was self-employed in construction for many years. He was an Army veteran of World War II in Europe and received a Purple Heart medal.     • HAWKINS, MARION D., 77, of Middletown, Ind., formerly of Clearwater, died Saturday (Oct. 20, 2001) at his daughter's home in Middletown. He was born in Louisville, Ky., and lived here for five years. He was a health care administrator and vice president of Americana Health Care of Monticello, Ill., for 15 years and locally retired in 1986 after six years as vice president of Jones and Hawkins Insurance Agency, St. Petersburg. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific aboard the USS Sabik during the Battle of Leyte Gulf. He graduated from Trevecca Academy, Nashville, Tenn., and Olivet Nazarene College, Kankakee, Ill. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Anderson, Ind., a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity of Pike County, Mississippi, and a member of the Rotary Club and the Honorary Order of Kentucky Colonels. He was a music director and a soloist in several Nazarene churches. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Doris; two daughters, Karen G. Turner, Middletown, and Becky Wood, Dallas; a son, Maj.     • NELSON, CLEVELAND CLARENCE "BUSS," 89, of Clearwater, formerly of Brooksville, died Friday (Oct. 19, 2001) at Westchester Gardens Rehabilitation and Care Center, Clearwater. He was born in Seattle and came to Florida in the late 1970s from Illinois, where he retired as a tool and instrument mechanic (machinist) in the physical plant of the University of Illinois, Urbana, Ill. He worked in a civilian position as a ship machinist in Pearl Harbor during World War II.     • DENNIS, NICHOLAS, 79, of St. Petersburg, died Monday (Oct. 22, 2001) at Golfview Nursing Home in St. Petersburg. He was a St. Petersburg native. He retired as owner and manager of Dennis Hotel in St. Petersburg. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Ann; two sons, Rick and Greg, both of St. Petersburg; a brother, Frank, Tarpon Springs; two sisters, Helen Fuller, Clearwater, and Stella Masterson, St. Petersburg, and four grandchildren.     • JACKSON, ROSA LEE, 77, of St. Petersburg, died Monday (Oct. 22, 2001) at St. Anthony's Hospital. She came here many years ago from her native Lakeland, Ga. She was a maid for local families and a musician. She was a member of First Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she played for the No. 2 choir and the male chorus. She also was organist for New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church's women's choir and Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church's choir. She was a member of the Singing Sisters and Brothers Prayer Band, OES Rosa Royal Chapter 110 and Lily Lodge 151. Survivors include a daughter, Rutha Gavina, St. Petersburg; two brothers, John Rich, Avon Park, and James Rich, El Sobrante, Calif.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a nurses aide. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Gerald; two sons, Jerry, Denver, and Geffery, Schaumburg, Ill.; a daughter, Nancy Jones, Virginia; several brothers and sisters; and five grandchildren. He was the owner of Picciano Enterprises and Slave Driver Enterprises in St. Petersburg. He was a member of the Old Salts Club and Sons of the American Legion Post 359, in Syracuse. Survivors include his parents, Paul and Jenny, Kirkville; a sister, Paula Williams, Fayetteville, N.Y.; a brother, John, East Syracuse; his paternal grandmother, Mary Picciano, East Syracuse; a niece, Jennifer, and a nephew, Michael Williams, both of Fayetteville; and a companion, Kelly Chuirazzi, Largo. He was a real estate appraiser and tax auditor for the city of Fort Lauderdale and a municipal fiscal consultant. He was a graduate of Antioch College in Ohio and a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church, St. Petersburg. Survivors include two nephews, Thomas Sawyer, Akron, Ohio, Theodore P.     • SCHLAGE, RAYMOND PAUL JR., 72, of St. Petersburg, died Friday (Oct. 19, 2001) at home. A Detroit native, he came here in 1988 from Los Angeles. He retired as a pilot for United Airlines after 34 years of service. He was a Marine Corps pilot and veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of St. Vincent's Episcopal Church, the Retired Airline Pilots Association and the St. Petersburg Stamp Club. Survivors include his wife, Rhodell; two sons, Rodger, Orlando, and Russell, Ellenton; a daughter, Sandra Schlage, Honolulu; a sister, Mary Lou Spry, Lakeland; a brother, Michael, Sault Ste.
