Belleair commission meeting to discuss utility lawsuit
BELLEAIR -- The Town Commission will hold a special meeting today to reconsider the town's lawsuit against Florida Power. Town Manager Steve Cottrell said the meeting was requested last week by Commissioner Tom Murrin. Belleair sued the utility giant in September, seeking the court's interpretation of whether the town has the right to purchase the company's poles and wires and start a municipal electric utility. The vote to sue was unanimous, but town officials have faced mounting pressure to abandon the lawsuit. The meeting begins at 5 p.m. in Town Hall, 901 Ponce DeLeon Blvd.
