Most of the work in Xpress, which appears on Mondays in Floridian, is produced by the Times' X-Team. The team of journalists ages 9-17 from around the Tampa Bay area is selected every year at the end of the school year to serve during the following school term. The current team of 12 was chosen out of 150 applicants. Watch for X-Team application forms in Xpress during the month of May.

Halloween Haiboo
[By Erin Hoyle, 9, fourth grade, Genesis School-East, New Port Richey]
With thanks to teacher Susan Palmer at Curtis Fundamental Elementary School in Clearwater for the clever headline above (she says she's been having her students write "haiboo" for years), we bring you some haiku poetry that will scare the socks off you. Well, okay, it probably won't do that, but these three-line poems of five, seven and five syllables about all things orange, black and ghostly will put you in the Halloween spirit. Story

Take the fright out of Hallowee
This has been a scary beginning of a new school year. The events that occurred Sept. 11 are still fresh in my mind. In light of the recent terrorist attacks in our country, I have been asking myself how I will celebrate Halloween. In years past, I have dressed up in many different costumes. My outfits have portrayed super heroes, villains, firefighters, butterflies, cats and movie stars. I have taken weapons and have looked like dangerous characters. I tried to scare people and they tried to scare me back, even though it was just pretend. I know I am older now but I still like Halloween. But this year feels a little different to me.
