  • Seniors revel in being students
In an earlier life, I was a registered nurse, but at 45, I went back to college at the University of South Florida's Bayboro campus in St. Petersburg. My first of many classes was American literature with Dr. Wells. By the time I had been in class 10 minutes, I knew I was in the right place.
  • You're never too old to learn
It may seem like only yesterday that schools opened for the fall term, but midterm exams already are a memory. Students have had their first vacation period (Thanksgiving) and are looking forward to their winter holiday.

Gift givers don't have to shop at the malls
The weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas were magical when we were children, but they seemed centuries long.

A gift to give for years to come
Too often the value of a Christmas present is measured in dollar and cents. But it isn't the monetary value of a gift that makes it a loving and lasting gesture. I remember a gift I once received from someone that cannot be bought or sold, and it is still with me.

The best gifts can't be found in stores
'Tis the season to be jolly. 'Tis also the season to max out your plastic trying to come up with the perfect gift for kids, grandkids and darling husbands. 'Tis the season when I think about my mother. Since she passed away and I became the senior woman in the family, I no longer have to try to figure out what to give her for Christmas. I assume she has peace, the most precious gift of all.

A Christmas wish list by and for seniors
Several months ago I asked you, the readers of Seniority, to suggest the gifts you'd really like to receive. You responded like youngsters writing letters to Santa!

Health benefits should be weighed in losing weight
When people enter the "contemplating stage" of losing excess weight, interestingly enough, many say they want to lose weight to improve their appearance, with no mention made of the health benefits to be gained.

His efforts implement the laws of God and man
Tampa lawyer Dallas Albritton enjoys his profession so much that he has postponed retirement, but his hours away from the office are also filled with helping the less fortunate.

Your presence is the best of all holiday gifts
'Tis the season to be jolly, fa, la, la ... as the Christmas carol goes. This is a season that's supposed to be filled with expectations and enjoyment.

This musical duo plays to its audience
They jokingly bill themselves as "Phrick and Phrak," but for musicians John DeSantis and Jay Johnson, entertaining audiences is both a great pastime and an enriching lifestyle.

She's not shy about the things she tries
Ruth Fitch of New Port Richey delights in doing the unexpected, among other things joining the military in World War II. And, most of all, she loves to clown around.
