Daily fishing report
Hopefully the winds will die down soon and those neat holiday gifts and gadgets can be put to good use. Every time I've put something new into service, whether a new reel or piece of electronic gear, the excitement caused me to turn to the manual only when I could not figure how to operate it. It is best to read the instructions from cover to cover before using anything. A reel instruction booklet not only will instruct us to back the drag system off after every use so that the drag will function smoothly; it will tell us how to set the side spool adjustment to minimize backlashes and how and where to lubricate. A penny's worth of grease or oil is much cheaper than a $20 repair bill.
