Man arrested for DUI after driving on golf courseHUDSON -- A 21-year-old man was arrested on charges of driving while under the influence Saturday morning after he allegedly tried to elude sheriff's deputies. Phillip Maurice Kemmis of 10151 Burton St. in New Port Richey was charged with fleeing in an attempt to elude police and driving under the influence. Pasco County sheriff's deputies responded at about 2 a.m. to complaints that a sport utility vehicle was driving on the golf course at Sugercreek. Deputies located two suspected SUVs heading east of Fairwinds Road and began chasing them. The SUVs split in different directions. After a short chase, a neighbor cornered one SUV with his car. Kemmis, the driver, told deputies he had driven on the cart path but never on the golf course itself. Deputies smelled a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, a report stated. Kemmis was given a field sobriety test and arrested on DUI charges. He was taken to Land O'Lakes jail, where he was released later Saturday on $500 bail. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
