Book touts Bay Point program

Bay Point Elementary's foreign language program is one of seven schools featured in a new book, Lessons Learned: Model Early Foreign Language Programs. The volume describes successful foreign language programs for students in kindergarten through eighth grade in Connecticut, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Ohio and Oregon.

Bay Point's program was selected after a nationwide search that resulted in 90 applications. Ten finalists participated in an interview process, which narrowed the field to the seven schools used as models for the book.

The school's program was evaluated during a two-day site visit. Chapter 2 of Lessons Learned describes Bay Point's teaching methods and approaches and features its standards-based curriculum and comprehensive assessment program.

The book is a collaboration between ERIC Clearinghouse on Languages and Linguistics and researchers at the Center for Applied Linguistics and the Northeast and Islands Regional Educational Laboratory at Brown University.
