ST. PETERSBURG -- Painting contractor and first-time political candidate Robert G. Wolf was in. Then he was out. Then he was back in. But on Tuesday, he said he is definitely out of this year's race to become mayor of St. Petersburg.

Wolf registered his campaign treasury at City Hall, only to tell the St. Petersburg Times on Dec. 20 that he was not running because of a "family problem." But he told the newspaper that he was "running, guaranteed" later the same day.

On Tuesday, Wolf confirmed that he had notified the city clerk's office that he wished to withdraw his candidacy.

"I think that's strictly personal," he said, when asked why he withdrew.
