Cheap Thrill

Chez Helene

On the sponge docks of Tarpon Springs, all that glistens is not Greek. You'll find Tampa Bay's prettiest napoleons, madeleines, tiny mousses and all the exquisite delights of a French patisserie tucked behind sponge exhibits in a warren of small shops. All come from the hands of Helene Robert, a Belgian woman and master of confectionery arts, whose son was an exchange student here. At $2 to $4 a piece, they are sophisticated bites of Europe -- and further reason to take along a cooler whenever you visit the docks. 510 Dodecanese Blvd., Tarpon Springs; (727) 934-5249
