Advertising contest entries on display at UTBy MICHAEL PATRICK WELCH © St. Petersburg Times, published January 5, 2001 The Addy is the American Advertising Federation's award for "creative excellence in advertising." The three-tier competition begins in local districts, where advertisements are grouped in categories such as public service, interactive media, radio, TV and political advertising, and judged for concept, copy, graphics and production. The contest then pits advertising agencies from around the country against one another, culminating in a national award. The only Addy stipulation is that entries are " "real' advertising, for "real' clients with "real,' marketing objectives, in or on "real' media." Quoth the press release, "(Entries) created solely for the purpose of winning an award, rather than satisfying a legitimate paying client's needs ... the ADDY Awards Competition shall not accept any such "unreal' entries." The competition in Florida's District 4 began in 1960. The District 4 competitors from all categories and mediums will be on display from Monday through Jan. 12 at the University of Tampa's Scarfone/Hartley Gallery.
