Bulls bitsBy ROD GIPSON © St. Petersburg Times, published January 5, 2001 TAMPA -- When Bill Gramatica connected on a 48-yard field goal in the fourth quarter of the Blue-Gray All-Star Classic on Christmas Day in Montgomery, Ala., not only did he lift the Gray to a 40-37 win, he tied a 16-year-old record. Gramatica, a senior, made four field goals in the game to tie the record set in 1984 by Tennessee's Faud Reveiz. Selected as the Gray's Outstanding Offensive Player, Gramatica also kicked field goals of 38, 25 and 18 yards. Gramatica also will kick in the East-West Shrine Game in Palo Alto, Calif., on Jan. 13 and leaves USF as the career record-holder in field goals (36), extra points (85), points (193) and owner of the longest field goal in USF history, a 63-yarder against Austin Peay in his final game. Gramatica is one of three USF football players participating in all-star games. Offensive tackle Kenyatta Jones joined Gramatica at the Blue-Gray Game and also will play in the Gridiron Classic in Orlando. Bulls defensive back Anthony Henry also will play in the Gridiron Classic on Jan. 13 at the Citrus Bowl. MEN'S BASKETBALL: The Bulls open Conference USA play Saturday in the Sun Dome at 7:30 p.m. against Southern Mississippi. USF is second among C-USA teams in blocked shots, assists and turnover margin. USF (8-4) leads the league in steals with an average of nine per game. Individually, B.B. Waldon (last week's C-USA Player of the Week) is second in the league in scoring at 19.3 points per game. Guard Altron Jackson is fourth at 19.2. The duo are the highest scoring tandem in the league. Despite their 63-61 overtime loss at No. 13 Wisconsin, the Bulls continue to receive votes in the national polls. They received a vote in the latest Associated Press poll and a season-high 10 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll, good enough for 33rd in the nation. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Junior Denetrice Stinson, the team's leading scorer in four games this season, has two double-doubles and is among the C-USA leaders with four in her career. Stinson, who hasn't started any of the Bulls' 12 games, is averaging 14.9 points and seven rebounds per game. Sunday's game against Cincinnati will be replayed at 7 p.m. Monday on Fox Sports Net Florida. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
