    Police describe suspect in driveway robberies

    ST. PETERSBURG -- Police have released a composite drawing of a suspect in a recent string of driveway robberies on the west side of St. Petersburg.

    Five times between Dec. 23 and Dec. 28, a man with a black pistol robbed people in or near their driveways.

    Each time, the man drove up, got out of his car with his gun drawn and demanded money and valuables. He is black, in his 20s, about 6 feet tall and 185 to 190 pounds. He wore dark clothing and a dark knit cap.

    Each robbery happened between 6:45 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the following areas: the 4600 block of 27th Avenue N; the 5400 block of Fourth Avenue S; the 4300 block of 37th Avenue N; the 3500 block of 41st Street N; and the 1800 block of Country Club Drive.

    Police seek teen suspected in rape

    ST. PETERSBURG -- Investigators are looking for a teenager who is accused of raping a girl last month while she was looking for her dog near the Pinellas Trail.

    On Dec. 22, a 16-year-old girl was on the trail just east of 62nd Street S when she approached the young man and asked if he had seen the dog, according to a report. The tall, thin young man said he had and agreed to lead her there.

    Police say the girl followed him to a secluded area, where he sexually assaulted her several times,

    The suspect told the girl he was 15 years old and showed his tattooed right arm that has a baby's face and the name Justin or Dustin under it.

    The man is white, 15 to 21 years old, 6 feet tall and weighs 140 to 150 pounds. He has brown wavy hair and narrow facial features.

    Woman injured in one-car wreck

    ST. PETERSBURG -- A woman was critically injured Thursday night when her car hit a tree along Central Avenue near 52nd Street, police said.

    The westbound car hit a tree on the south side of the street about 10:15 p.m. She suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Bayfront Medical Center. Her name and condition weren't available late Thursday.
