Group to protest execution of killer of school teacherBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published January 10, 2001 TALLAHASSEE -- A group opposed to the state's death penalty announced plans Tuesday to protest outside the Governor's Mansion on Thursday as the state prepares to put killer Robert Dewey Glock II to death. Glock's execution is set for 6 p.m. Glock, 39, and cohort Carl Puiatti, 38, both of Lee County, were arrested Aug. 29, 1983, four days after they abducted Sharilyn Ritchie, a 34-year-old school teacher, from a Bradenton mall. The two confessed that they took her to an orange grove outside Dade City, stole her jewelry and car and shot her to death. The group, the Tallahassee Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, announced Tuesday it would hold a vigil in the park across from the Governor's Mansion in Tallahassee beginning about 5:45 p.m. Thursday. The coalition is also planning to hold a service of remembrance for Glock and Ritchie at the state Capitol at noon on Friday. Group member Walter Moore said Tuesday his organization is opposed to the death penalty but does not want to make a judgment on Glock's guilt or innocence or make light of Ritchie's death. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
