Youth roundupBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published January 11, 2001 CITRUS COUNTY FAIR CHILDREN'S PAGEANTS: The Citrus County Fair Association will sponsor its 2001 Decorated Baby and Beautiful Baby Pageants for children 6 months through age 4 at 2 p.m. March 18 in the Citrus County Auditorium. The pageant for children ages 5 to 13 will be at 6:30 p.m. March 19 in the auditorium. Applications, available at the fair office or any Chamber of Commerce office, must be postmarked by Feb. 11 and a $25 entry fee must accompany each one. All contestants must be Citrus County residents. For information, call 726-2993. WORLD HERITAGE SEEKS LOCAL HELP: World Heritage, a non-profit student exchange program, is seeking local volunteer representatives to provide foreign exchange students with local support. Representatives plan an annual student orientation, meet with local high schools, provide support counseling for participants, screen potential host families and meet monthly with exchange students, attend an annual training workshop and report to the regional coordinator. Local representatives spend about two to four hours a month with the exchange students. Time and expenses are reimbursed by the organization. For information, call (864) 963-8332 or (800) 785-9040. TEEN COUNCIL: Coastal Region Library is seeking youths ages 13 to 18 to serve on a teen council to assist the library in developing programs for teens. Members will be encouraged to express ideas for youth programs, materials for the library and the new library teen Web site. The council will meet at 3 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of each month in the Community Room. For information, call 795-3716. STORY TIME: The Citrus County Library System is offering free story time programs for 3-year-olds to 6-year-olds, which may include finger plays, flannel board stories, book sharing, games, songs, dance or crafts. The programs are at 11 a.m. Tuesdays at Central Ridge Library; 9:30 a.m. Thursdays at Lakes Region Library; 10 a.m. Tuesdays at Homosassa Public Library; and 2 p.m. Saturdays at Floral City public Library. No registration required. Bedtime stories are at 7 p.m. every Tuesday at Central Ridge Library and 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday at Lakes Region Library. Children 2 and older are encouraged to wear pajamas and bring a favorite stuffed animal to this reading time. TAE KWON DO: Citrus County Parks and Recreation is offering tae kwon do classes to children 6 and older. The first class is free. Cost is $10 for the first month, $20 for each additional month. Students learn self-control, confidence, self-defense, discipline and respect. Classes meet once a week as follows: Citrus County Auditorium from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays; Lecanto Primary School from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays; Crystal River Middle School from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays; Citrus Springs Middle School from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays; Beverly Hills Community Building from 6 to 9 p.m. Fridays; Homosassa Riverside Resort from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
