Man gets 15-year term in home invasion case

Carl Campos, who pleaded guilty to home invasion and kidnapping charges last week, received a 15-year prison sentence Wednesday. He was one of two men who police say forced their way into the home of a jewelry store manager in January 1999 and held the family of five hostage, demanding the keys and safe combination to the store, Goldsmith Jewelers. More than $1-million in merchandise was then stolen from the Spring Hill business. Although Campos pleaded guilty to the charges last week with the understanding that he would get 15 years from Circuit Judge Jack Springstead, the formal sentencing was delayed until Wednesday so that the victims could be present.

Purse-snatcher sentenced to five years in prison

A Pasco County man's purse-snatching spree will cost him five years in prison. Michael J. Borders, 18, of 21206 Preservation Drive in Land O'Lakes pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges of robbery, robbery by snatching, attempted robbery by snatching and car burglary. Officials said he targeted women in front of gas stations and shopping centers in June. Circuit Judge Richard Tombrink sentenced Borders as a youthful offender.
