Leaving the earthbound behind
Hundreds of kites will fill the sky over Treasure Island's beach Saturday and Sunday during the annual Kite Festival and Treasure Island Sport Kite Competition. Event includes competitions of elaborate, giant kites and aerial ballets. There are clinics for those who want to learn to make kites and to compete. The 10 a.m. to dusk event is free. An auction of kites and kite equipment at 9 p.m. Sat. in the Sunset Banquet Room of the Bilmar Beach Resort benefits the Treasure Island Recreation Department. (727) 596-3431.
