Bouncing back in life, career

A few years ago, Brett Butler, right, was one of TV comedy's hottest stars. On her Grace Under Fire, Butler played a blue-collar single mom who had fled an abusive marriage. The plot wasn't far from Butler's own life.

Butler was dropped from her show after a bout with addiction. She now says she has gotten her life back together and is developing a new sitcom for ABC about a woman who hit bottom and pulled herself back up.

No doubt the acerbic Butler, 42, will plumb her recent troubles for material in her stand-up act, which she brings this weekend to Tampa's Side Splitters, Cascades Plaza, 12938 N Dale Mabry Highway. Shows are at 8 and 10:30 p.m. Fri.-Sat. and 8 p.m. Sun. $18-$20. Some of the shows have limited seating left. Call (813) 960-1197 for reservations.
