For the adventurous
Amy Denio was compared by one music critic to Peppermint Patty. I guess that's because Denio is funny, sassy and industrious, making pretty music from paper clips and rubber bands.
Denio, from Seattle, is an internationally recognized composer with a slew of arty awards under her belt. She's here as part of the always engaging EMIT series of experimental music.
Among her compositions: a concerto for four saxes and three city buses (yes, you are reading correctly). She sings like an angel and breaks sweat on many instruments, but none more than the accordion. So, if you're feeling adventurous . . .
Denio performs at 8 p.m. Friday at Budious Maximus, 1111 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. Tickets are $8, $5 for students. (727) 898-8525. Denio also performs at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Gulf Coast Museum of Art, 12211 Walsingham Road, Largo, (727) 518-6833.
